AHHHH OUR BABY IS ALMOST DONE! After spending all morning in lab we were able to machine the bottom part of the yoyo so that it looks more like an actual hydroflask. We were concerned about the extra weight and the lack of symmetry around the axis of rotation but we tried it out and it yoyoes great!!!! This is exciting news. however, if you pay close attention to the picture, there is a slight misallignment in the part. This is because the core and the cavity were not perfectly centered. In addition, the cavity is a little too big so the part as a whole is larger than the Bottom of Top part.
Hence, the game plan is to come early to lab on Monday to machine this set of molds once again, injection mold it, and finally assemble all of the rest of the yoyos. If we have time, we are thinking about machining the mold of the black cap that will press fit into the metal ring on top of the ice -still thinking about how to make the handle... Let's see if we can make this extra part before we leave for Thanks Giving. Hopefully we do because it would look really cool!
